Sam Lawrence began working with glass as a senior in high school. After seeing a glass blowing demonstration in Venice, Italy and knew that’s what he wanted to study. Sam immediately took a bead making course and was instantly hooked. He went to art school with the intention of focusing on glass blowing. When he had just started his sophomore year, he sustained a traumatic brain injury in a skateboarding accident. He was in a coma for 4 weeks and spent many months focusing on his rehabilitation. Through Sam’s persistence and determination he was able to physically return to his torch where he continues to make beautiful art.
